One perceives a strong bond between the American coloristic tradition inspired by Rothko and the Italian tradition of the great masters of the past. Light in its outbursts, its blades and its expression of force and power cannot be but inspired by the works of Caravaggio. The impact with Caravaggio, which has taken place during his visits to Italy, in Naples and Rome, has left an indelible mark. But in his works Williamson combines the force with a heart-rendering lyricism which inevitably brings to mind the Venetian coloristic tradition. - excerpt from Todd Williamson's website, Cynthia Penna Simonelli, Art 1307, Milan Italy
