Mikiko Hayashi Exhibition - Contemporary Yamato-e Paintings

Ginza Ippodo Salon is honored to present an exhibition of "Yamato-e" paintings by Kyoto-based artist Mikiko Hayashi.

"Yamato-e" is a picture using gold leaf and patina. It is a classical Japanese style painting emerged from aristocratic society in early 11th century and was broadly introduced from samurai class to ordinary people in Edo period (early 17th - late 19th century).

Hayashi's delicate works show the extreme of Yamato-e artifice that has been almost lost in history and they will lead viewers to a heavenly world. In this Exhibition, stunning folding screens (byobu), wall scrolls (kakejiku), and fans (sensu) are to be presented.

1966 born in Kyoto, as first-born daughter of Komao Hayashi, a living national treasure doll maker artist
1984 graduated from Kyoto City Dohda Senior High School of Arts, department of Japanese style painting
1986 graduated from Kyoto College of Art and Design, course of Japanese style painting
1987 started work of Japanese color painting
1994 held a first solo exhibitionsince then has held exhibitions in various places
