TSUJIMURA Shiro Exhibition

In his youth, when he was still searching for something within himself, wondering what he should do and how he should live, he came into contact with an Oido-ware tea bowl. The heart-warming, serene beauty of this bowl is what gave birth to TSUJUMURA Shiro the potter. Kneading the clay, turning his wheel, striving to equal such great potters as Kizaemon, Chojiro and Oribe, devoting himself zealously to the creation of a single bowl that will fulfill his expectations, he has left thousands, even tens of thousands of bowls in his wake. Over a period of forty years, he has single-handedly fired almost two hundred tons of clay. In the autumn of last year, a film crew from NHK BS’s ‘Takeshi Art Beat’ program visited this pottery mound. In this program, the presenter, KITANO Takeshi, interviews various world-famous artists, and for a full three days, the village was converted into a film set. What kind of conversation took place between the internationally renowned film director and the potter, how did they resonate with each other? We will not know the answer to this until the program is aired on April 27, and then the following day, his exhibition will open at Ginza Ippodo.
